Heading 4
Drumming in the Wilderness
One of the special goals of the camp is to take the music beyond the rehearsal room.
As the ensemble pieces come together, the group will prepare for a planned walk into a selected wilderness setting where, subject to weather, safety and access conditions, we will perform the music we have created together.
There is something powerful about hearing drums in the open landscape, surrounded by mountains, forest and space.
The wilderness performance is designed to become one of the defining memories of the retreat.

Wilderness Drumming Camp
Rhythm, Adventure and Connection Beneath Mount Roland
Gowrie Park Wilderness Village, Mount Roland, Tasmania
Wilderness Drumming is a four-day immersive drumming and outdoor experience designed to bring people together through rhythm, creativity and adventure.
Set beneath the spectacular Mount Roland at Gowrie Park Wilderness Village, the camp combines focused ensemble drumming with time to explore, unwind and experience the Tasmanian wilderness.
Throughout the retreat, participants will work together to build a series of powerful drumline and ensemble pieces. Each day includes approximately three hours of guided drumming, divided into shorter, focused sessions so that everyone has time to learn their individual parts, develop confidence and understand how their rhythm fits within the wider group.
The emphasis is not on competition or individual performance. It is about listening, teamwork, musical connection and the experience of creating something together.
More Than a Drum Camp
While drumming is at the heart of the program, there will also be plenty of time to slow down, explore and enjoy the surroundings.
Free time may be spent:
-
hiking and exploring;
-
mountain biking;
-
drawing and sketching;
-
photography;
-
reading;
-
sharing stories;
-
relaxing around the village;
-
spending time with other participants.
The intention is to create a retreat with enough structure to achieve something musically meaningful, while still allowing space to enjoy the environment and the people around you.

Wilderness Drumming is about far more than learning drum parts.It is about working together.Listening to one another.Sharing an adventure.Creating something that could not exist without everyone contributing.And returning home with a memory that belongs to both father and son.Expressions of interest and bookings are now welcome.
